Summary

Children experience complex emotions just like adults and helping them identify and express their feelings in a positive manner is important for their social-emotional learning, developing empathy, and building resilience。 Feelings are neither good nor bad, they simply are。 Kids need words to name their feelings, just as they need words to name all things in their world。 The Way I Feel uses strong, colorful, and expressive images which go along with simple verses to help children connect the word and the emotion。 Children will learn useful words giving parents, teachers, and caregivers many chances to open conversations about what’s going on in their child’s life。 Recommended by parents, teachers and mental health professionals, The Way I Feel is a valuable addition to anyone's library。

This is one of my go to books with students。 It’s a fun way to talk about feelings。 I then use the terminology whenever students are expressing feelings。 This book should be in every home library。

There are no bad emotions is a central concept to this book。 Each emotion is described and illustrated by Janan Cain。 Mom of two, Janan Cain used oil pastels to create the illustrations because she could start and stop work easily。 Tags: Emotions in children -- Emotions

Clown-like illustrations accompany clumsily rhymed text describing emotions in a somewhat child friendly way。

This book helped coax me into discussing emotions with young children。 Sharing just one or two emotions at a time is a great way to use this book — get the kids to tell you about a time when they felt shy or disappointed or frustrated or happy。 I’ve purchased many copies of this Scholastic book and given them to my preschooler Ready Readers to take home and share with their families at home。

Simple way to help teach emotions to young children。 It includes that emotions are part of us and none are bad。

Awesome book! I really appreciate the range of emotions covered in this book and that each one has context to help the child begin to gather words to communicate when they are feeling this way。 I thought my 8m would be too young, but we made it through half in the first sitting and the front to back in the second。 I hope as he gets older that we can continue to use this book to help foster discussions on how he is feeling and support him in finding ways to describe and express himself。

The Way I Feel by Janan Cain is a children's picture book describing the multiple different emotions we feel and the possible reasons we feel them。 As the author says, this books emphasizes "language for emotions"。 It encourages kids as well as adults to understand their emotions and be able to communicate them/express them in words。 By talking them out we can hopefully understand how to change or appreciate the circumstances causing us to feel a certain way。 I loved this book。 The illustrations The Way I Feel by Janan Cain is a children's picture book describing the multiple different emotions we feel and the possible reasons we feel them。 As the author says, this books emphasizes "language for emotions"。 It encourages kids as well as adults to understand their emotions and be able to communicate them/express them in words。 By talking them out we can hopefully understand how to change or appreciate the circumstances causing us to feel a certain way。 I loved this book。 The illustrations were colorful, expressive and wild。 Two words to perfectly describe it in my mind are, controlled chaos。 Despite the font being difficult to read at times, I really like the extension to the description of the emotions。 For example, "Im frustrated because I can't do it。 It's hard and I want to cry。 I don't know whether to give it up or to give it another try" rather than just saying, "Im frustrated。 I Can't do it。" Thats not relatable or even an honest beneficial way of going about it。 Emotions are a normal part of life for not only children but adults。 The ability to acknowledge the emotion, express it correctly, and move on is crucial。 Teaching such skills need to be encouraged at an early age。 While this book is more of an advanced beginners book it still has a very important concept that would be great to read to a group of kids。 。。。more

Really enjoyable book about all different emotions。 The use of rhyming added an element of fun which gave this book more of a light hearted feel which will help in drawing children in and helping them in understanding what is being said。 The final page of this book brings it all together really nicely saying how it doesn’t matter what emotions you’re feeling, they all make you who you are。 I can see this being really beneficial for work on emotional regulation。

Of the various feelings and page spreads, only 1 child of color was given an emotion (child 8 of 13)。 This was the only child of color depicted with the various emotions。 The feeling word was "frustrated" -- perhaps because she is the only one who looks like her。 One other child of color was depicted on the last page in a group of white children。 Of the various feelings and page spreads, only 1 child of color was given an emotion (child 8 of 13)。 This was the only child of color depicted with the various emotions。 The feeling word was "frustrated" -- perhaps because she is the only one who looks like her。 One other child of color was depicted on the last page in a group of white children。 。。。more

Awesome book to keep in a calm down corner。 This book teaches children about the many different feelings they may feel。 It also gives children an understanding of why they may feel the way they feel。 Sometimes children do not know how to express themselves。 This book can help with that。 The illustrations are cute too。

Reading this always made me feel very validated in all the feelings I would ever have, I think it's important to let children know that they aren't alone in how they feel and its okay to feel them and let them come and go。 It also rhymes all the way through so it's very catchy and nice。 Reading this always made me feel very validated in all the feelings I would ever have, I think it's important to let children know that they aren't alone in how they feel and its okay to feel them and let them come and go。 It also rhymes all the way through so it's very catchy and nice。 。。。more
